Sarah Jessica Parker popping in to Bloomingdale's Aventura

Sarah Jessica Parker is channeling her inner Carrie Bradshaw these days. The actress who played the stiletto-obsessed columnist for six years on HBO’s Sex and the City has her own shoe line, SJP Collection. Parker, 51, will be popping by the Bloomingdale’s Aventura store from 2-4 p.m. Thursday. Customers who make an SJP purchase will have the opportunity to meet the big- and small-screen legend in the flesh and have their purchase signed. We spoke to her before her trip from her home in NYC:

Can you describe your inspiration for your most current collection?

I would say there is an intentional classic silhouette. It’s been the same since we launched. The styles have been influenced in many ways by the great designers of the ’70s — Charles Jourdan, Maud Frizon, the list goes on. We’re not afraid of femininity. And by feminine we mean things that are slightly more subversive or naughty or strong.

How can South Floridians wear your shoes?

Because of the climate, I would say bright colors feel right. And open toes — because you guys don’t have to think about stepping over piles of snow like we do in the Northeast! But I really don’t hold opinions about how people dress. You choose what you want to wear. I never give style tips, and say, ‘Do this’ or ‘Do that.’ I find all that plain nonsense. People should do what’s appropriate for their lives, their experiences, their work.

How do you like designing as opposed to acting?

I’m a small company, and I am growing my business. I work really, really hard. I typically don’t do anything I don’t enjoy, and I’ve loved this experience. I’ve learned a lot. It’s terrifying and daunting sometimes to sort it all out. But my partner is [Manolo Blahnik CEO] George Malkemus. I’ve known him since the mid-’80s — long before Sex and the City — and admire him personally and professionally. Any time I’m nervous about what I’m doing, I kind of take my cue from him. I feel really lucky. It’s been an education and a privilege. I love traveling around to stores and talking about the brand with my fans and customers.

You were such a shoe horse on “SATC.” Are you in real life? How many pairs do you own?

I get this question a lot. And it’s always the same reply: I really don’t have that many. Some I’ve owned for like 25 years! I like to borrow shoes, which is nice to do. I don’t even really shop that much. If I do, I buy clothes that are used. My closet is pretty small. On the rare occasion that people see it, they’re pretty disappointed. I always say I’d rather give space over to bookshelves.
