Miami’s own Danell Leyva brings home two medals from Rio

Look who is bringing back some major hardware from Rio? None other than Miami’s own Danell Leyva, the 2012 Olympics All-American bronze medalist and reigning world silver medalist on high bar. The same guy who didn’t qualify for the U.S. men’s gymnastics team, but came in as an alternate when John Orozco tore his ACL.

Leyva, who is coached by his stepfather and mother, both of whom competed for the Cuban national team before defecting to the United States, had been dealing with an injury prior to Olympic trials and was convinced his Olympic dreams were over.

Way to go Danell. Miami awaits you with a box of pastelitos and a Publix sub.
