The sexy girls from BG5 are ready to take over Miami’s airwaves.
If you’re unfamiliar with the group, take notice. Their new single, “Scratch,” is making the radio rounds and thanks to their ties with The Kardashians (mom, Kris Jenner is one of their managers) these ladies are moving up in the pop world. You might have even seen them on the reality television show “Keeping Up with the Kardashians”.
Late-night Friday, Dec. 3, BG5’s Brooke Adams, Dominique Domingo, Noreen Juliano, Mandy Jiroux, and Laura New will perform at Score nightclub on Lincoln Road on South Beach. We chatted with the quintet via telephone about their music and what it’s like knowing E!’s most famous family.
When is your new album due?
We’re currently in the process of recording a handful of amazing songs but the album is set to be due in 2011.
What musicians have inspired you?
The thing that makes BG5 so interesting is that we individually all have such different musical inspirations, from 70’s rock to blues, jazz and R&B. As a group we are inspired by some of the most influential girl groups from the likes of EnVogue, TLC and the Spice Girls.
What are Kardashians like when the cameras stop rolling?
It’s been such an honor to have the opportunity to get to know the Kardashian/Jenner family. Filming was a blast. They’re all such kind and genuine people and their family bond really is so refreshing to be around. BG5’s bond is very similar to a family so it was a natural fit to have Kris Jenner sign on as our co-manager. Her passion, love and focus in what she does completely matches ours. It’s really nice having a strong woman figure to look up to and learn from in so many ways. We’re really happy and feel blessed that we were able to be a part of the show.
What is your relationship with them after the show? Do you shop together? Lunch?
We’re very close with Kris and always in contact with her. She is our co-manager. As with the rest of the family, everyone has been so busy in their personal ventures and traveling that it’s been hard to really find time to meet up. I’m sure after the holidays there will be more opportunities to spend time with the Kardashian family!
How has knowing them changed your career?
It’s been incredible. I mean just being on a couple episodes of the show has really helped spread the word about BG5 and our music. People are starting to recognize us on tour and when we perform people know our single “Scratch” and are actually singing along to it in the crowd. And not only that, we’re just learning so much being around Kris and seeing how she works. It’s been great.
What makes you unique or sets you apart from other girl groups?
It’s always hard to explain in words what sets a five-member pop girl group apart from another five-member pop girl groups. I think that answer is really up to the viewer/listener to decide. You can never tell what sets a person apart from another until you get to know them. When people see/hear us perform . . . they get it.
Are there any cameos or collaborations in the works or on the album?
We do have a few exciting collaborations on the album but you’re going to have to buy the album to find out.
What has been the coolest thing so far about show business?
The coolest thing for us has been seeing the growth in our bond as a group in the midst of all the chaos of being in show business. We started off on this beach volleyball tour, discovering an incredible chemistry with each other in 4 months of touring, deciding to stay together after it ended while not being paid for nearly a year, working our butts off constantly while feeling like nothing is happening, never losing hope and now we’re starting to see the fruits of our labor and our bond is closer than ever. Working is FUN. We love what we’re doing and we love each other and with all that we’ve been through . . . it’s pretty awesome that we can say that with complete honesty.
BG5 performs live 1 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 5 at Score nightclub, 727 Lincoln Rd., Miami Beach.
