What a weird week for rapper Nelly.
Last week he was reportedly accused of raping a 21-year-old college student outside of Seattle. In a weird turn, his accuser decided to drop the charges a few days later. Her lawyer, Karen Koehler posted a statement: “We do not live in a society where a 21 year old college student can feel safe enough to pursue criminal charges against a celebrity for an alleged rape.” The rapper denied all charges and it appears that police are still going to try to get to the bottom of the story.
Meantime, Nelly showed up to Miami this weekend and performed Saturday night at Rockwell. DJ Irie was on the turntables and Nelly received a very warm reception from the crowd and was said to be “in great spirits.” He surprised the crowd when he had rapper T.I. join him on stage for the performance. The duo performed three songs together before Nelly went solo for over 30 minutes.
A pop up show by Nelly sounds fine, but you know it’s a party when a rapper lip syncs to Adele. That’s what happened the night before at Rockwell during Diddy’s Revolt Music Ciroc party. Seen in The Club that night were Jeezy, Busta Rhymes and OT Genasis, who kept the party going till the wee hours of the morning.
At around 4 a.m. Genasis jumped on the mic for an impromptu show. After performing some of his top hits, he had a surprise for everyone. He made the DJ play one of his favorite songs, “Hello” by Adele and he put on a lip sync performance of the song from the top of the DJ booth while the entire nightclub, including Diddy and Busta Rhymes, sang along to the lyrics.
