MARCH 2012 HIGHLIGHTS
South Beach Comedy Festival
Feb. 29-Mar. 4
Where: Several theatres including the Fillmore Miami Beach, 1700 Washington Ave., Miami Beach
The nation's funniest people will converge on Miami Beach for the seventh annual South Beach Comedy Festival. This year features performances by Lewis Black, Community's Donald Glover, Parks & Rec funnyman Aziz Ansari, roastmaster Jeffrey Ross and many more. The events take place at several venues including the Fillmore Miami Beach, the Colony Theatre and the Lincoln Road Stage at Euclid Avenue.

The premier fair of art from Latin America, arteaméricas returns for its tenth installment in 2012, showcasing the latest trends in paintings, sculpture and multimedia. Galleries from all over Latin America will be participating, representing hundreds of emerging artists and renowned masters. Admission is $12 at the door, free from noon-2 p.m. daily.
Miami International Film Festival
Where: Various theatres throughout Miami
The annual film festival brings an international program of films from established and emerging filmmakers to various venues throughout Miami. The event features screenings, Q & A's with filmmakers, a Festival Village (located at the 1100 block of Lincoln Road) with free shorts, previews and a chance to mingle with attendees.
Where: SW Eighth Street between 11-27th Avenues, Miami
Little Havana's historic Calle Ocho is blocked off from 11th-27th Avenue, filling the city blocks with stages, international foods, sampling sites and entertainment for 1million people to dance, eat and celebrate Hispanic traditions. This year's King of the Carnaval is sexy singer/actor Jencarlos Canela.
Miami-Dade County Fair and Exposition
Mar. 15-Apr. 1
Where: Miami-Dade County Fair Grounds, 10901 SW 24 St., Miami
This 18-day event includes live entertainment, state-of-the-art rides, skill games, outrageous fair foods and livestock/agricultural competitions. The Fair showcases the artistic and academic talents of more than 45,000 students through competition and exhibition, with winnings totaling more than $475,000 annually in cash premiums, awards, trophies and plaques. The Fair is ranked the largest fair in Florida, attracting well over half a million visitors annually. Live entertainment includes shows by Chino Y Nacho, Willie Chirino, Sie7e, plus MMA competitions, boxing and WWE wrestling.
Winter Music Conference
Where: Headquarters at the The Beachplex, 2100 Collins Ave., Miami Beach. Events throughout Miami Beach.
Winter Music Conference is a huge annual music gathering that brings together heavyweights from the electronic, house, techno and dance music industry as well as music industry delegates from 70 countries and thousands of fans for a concentrated schedule of more than 400 events, parties, seminars and workshops. Established in 1985, WMC is the largest music industry gathering of its kind in the world.
Jazz In the Gardens
Where: Sun Life Stadium, 2269 Dan Marino Blvd, Miami.
A weekend of some of the hottest R&B and jazz acts around, along with food from around the globe, arts & crafts, interactive stations and more. On the roster this year are Mary J. Blige, Patty LaBelle, Jill Scott, Ramsey Lewis, Kevin Eubanks and more.
Sony Ericsson Open Tennis Tournament
March. 19-Apr. 1
Where: Crandon Park Tennis Center, 7300 Crandon Blvd, Key Biscayne
This men’s and women’s tennis tournament is unofficially considered the fifth grand slam among the pro ranks. The event attracts over 290,000 people and consistently showcases the best tennis players in the world – Victoria Azarenka, Petra Kvitova, Maria Sharpova, Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal – with plenty of A-list celebrities in attendance.
Miami Beach International Fashion Week
Where: Miami Beach Convention Center, 1901 Convention Center Drive, Miami Beach.
Miami Beach acts as a rendezvous point for fashion industry insiders from Europe and North and South America as it hosts the 14th annual Miami Beach International Fashion Week. The show has received worldwide recognition for showcasing the best fashion from around the world and has been a launch pad for successful designers like Colombia's Esteban Cortazar and Silvia Tcherassi, Peru's Sitka Semsch and Chile's Ruben Campos. Singer/actress Dionne Warwick will be in attendence to host a media seminar.
Ultra Music Festival
Where: Downtown Miami
Bayfront Park becomes the ultimate party spot each March for more than 40,000 electronic and dance music enthusiasts. Over 200 musicians and DJs perform during the three-day festival on various stages throughout the park – from mid-day and into the evening. Among the lineup for this year are such superstar names as Tiesto, David Guetta, Skrillex, Steve Aoki and the Cedric Gervais.
