Miami Art Museum

Located in the Miami-Dade Cultural Plaza, MAM's main mission is to represent the city and its people through art. Experience an array of colors, lights, sounds and structures on the museum's two floors of exhibit space, which bring together painting, sculpture, photography, video and installation art of diverse artists such as Carlos Alfonzo, Sol LeWitt, Chuck Close, Ana Mendieta, George Segal and Frank Stella, among many others. See Vik Muniz's contemporary recreation of Monet's "Waterlilies," a collage of magazine clips on three walls, or take a closer look at the arrangement of mirrors and flame-inspired light boxes of Alfredo Jaar's "Europa" a commentary on the Bosnian War. Visitors can expect more exhibitions of new media bolstered by the 2006 partnership with Miami Art Central, a former contemporary art museum with specialty in Latin American modernists, video artists and photography. For adults looking for a more artistic after-work alternative, there's JAM at MAM on every third Thursday, a happy hour complete with cocktails, hors d'oeuvres and a DJ.
