Lung Gong Restaurant

About

Meaning "dragon palace," Lung Gong is not much to look at décor wise, with just a few red paper lanterns, but the food is worth the drive way west on Eighth Street. The owners are from Beijing and the cooks are from Sichuan, so dishes from these regions are featured along with standard Chinese menu staples. The home-style dishes like spicy wonton soup with pork dumplings and peanuts, strips of Beijing-style pancakes stir-fried with veggies and duck smoked over bay leaves transport you to China. Seafood excels, especially the head-on shrimp specials and whole crispy fried croaker in sweet and sour sauce or with black beans and garlic. Vegetarians have plenty to choose from and should try seaweed salad or pickled turnip in sesame oil. Clear your palate with soothing chrysanthemum tea.
