Love Life and the 411 for August 2014
Miami Soul's Jill Tracey puts you in the know for this month
"A bird doesn't sing because it has an answer, it sings because it has a song. ..” Maya Angelou
You could hear it in the greetings of “Hello my sister. Well, good day, my brother” and see it in the smiles of children playing fearlessly, that indeed the city had a song at the kickoff of the 1st Annual Overtown Music and Arts Festival. Headliner Marketing Group and House of Wings along with Commissioner Keon Hardemon spearheaded the daylong concert and Kids Zone along NW 3rd Ave. in Historic Overtown featuring Grammy nominated artists like Raheem DeVaughn, Keke Wyatt, Jaguar Wright, Case and newcomer Sebastian Mikael.
Local favorites The Deep Fried Funk Band and comedian Larry Dogg headlined the show. The Youth Zone was presented by The Green Family Foundation and produced by T.E.E.S - Teens Exercising Extraordinary Success, The Norwood Consulting Group and The Brown Girls. Nikki Kancey, Founder of T.E.E., says “it was important that an area be created to serve the youngest festival goers and engage them with a full slate of activities ranging from Arts & Crafts, fitness, literacy, and dancing.” More info at www.TeesMiami.org
Lifestyle, Music, Brands and Culture...In The Mix!
Ms. Vanessa James never disappoints and VJMedia Mixology III was an experiential event combining lifestyle, music and the brands that matter all powered by Steady Image media. This year Cadillac was the premiere brand partner and featured the 2015 ELR and Escalade. It was a great opportunity for a variety of brands like Monster Headphones, KIND Snacks, Remy Martin, Mount Gay Rum, Barefoot Wine, Bai Drinks, Coca-Cola, Emagination Group, and more to educate local media, bloggers, radio, print and TV personalities. In addition, VJ Media and Cadillac honored five media leaders for their contributions to the industry. Awards were given to:
From L to R: Manny Ruiz - CEO of Hispanicize; Cessie Cerrato - PR Director of Palace Resorts Global; Simon Gomez - Contributor (Influencer of the Year); Vanessa James; Jill Strada - Program Director of WFLC-Miami- CoxMedia Group; John Yearwood - World Editor for the Miami Herald.
Prom Night Revisited...
The GirlFessional Network recently held their 2nd time Around Prom. I remember hearing about it and thinking 'Why would I want to re-live that?' But surprisingly it was a fantastically fun event and a great opportunity for couples to act like teens in love again with contests for King and Queen, Battle of the Sexes, Best Dressed and more. The really sweet event raised over $2,000 in scholarship funds for young girls headed to college this fall. Director Cherolyn Thompson said “Our goals are to have a great time and to give inspiration and render love one girl at a time.”

REALLY, REALLY HOT AND TRENDING...
How did Kermit the Frog become a Social Media SUPASTAR? The funniest thing online right now are all these Kermit the Frog memes and Instagrams! But there is NOTHING funnier than “But That's None Of My Business: Kermit The Frog” by Bugatti Benz. It is young humor, he’s very popular on YouTube and some of his videos are, well, the language is messy but FUNNY!! Click here to check it out.
MAKE SOME ROOM BEYONCE...
The new single 'Bang Bang' featuring Jessie J, Ariana Grande, and Nicki Minaj is set to be the Girl Power anthem of the summer! Typically I’m not a big fan of any of the above but together they are fire on this track. No doubt about to blow the roof off the end of the summer! Of course there will be the comparisons to Li’l Kim, Christina Aguilera, Pink and Mya’s 'Lady Marmalade' and more appropriately Li’l Kim’s 'Ladies Night' with Queen Latifah, Angie Martinez , Mary J Blige, Missy Elliot and Da Brat. Regardless, the song stands on its own as a banger – no pun intended, Miley Cyrus. Available on iTunes or listen to it here.
ADULT SWIM'S MIKE TYSON MYSTERIES
"Ain't got no time for Bird Sex!"
That will make sense once you’ve seen the show. LMAO funny! I watched this trailer four times laughing my butt off! It debuted last week and it's the first from Adult Swim 2014-2015 new shows. The "Mike Tyson Mysteries," is a half-hour animated adult comedy series featuring a cartoon Mike Tyson who solves mysteries, with his Mystery Team - a ghost named the Marquess of Queensbury, Mike’s adopted Korean daughter Yee and a pigeon who used to be a man. Crazy enough for ya? It debuted at this year’s Comic-Con and Mike Tyson actually voices his character and it’s hilarious. Click here to check out the promo.
