Latin American Grill- Miami Lakes

About

The Latin American Grill is neither a grill generically Latin American. Virtually all the food is Cuban, either classic dishes or slightly imaginative creations firmly rooted in Cuba; even caldo gallego (a Friday and Sunday special) and Tuesday’s fabada are the Cuban versions, not the Spanish originals. Actually, though there are ample full entrees (which some devotees claim are the best versions they’ve had outside of mamacita’s kitchen), most of the menu is devoted to sandwiches. And what a selection it is, with several versions of many varieties: two pan con lechon options, two classic Cuban sandwiches. Then there’s the Serrano Surtido, a Cuban sandwich with jamon Serrano added, and the ultimate Miami Lakes Special, a Cubano with added Serrano ham plus Spanish-style chorizo. And there are also a few offerings that should be in on the menu of every eatery that sells Cuban-style sandwiches, but often aren’t, like the Elena Ruz (turkey, cream cheese and strawberry jam, on sweet bread) and the galeta preparata, the uniquely weird Cuban-American saltine sandwich.
