Some serious foodies have long insisted that the original Casa Lario’s, a mainland Miami institution that inspired this beach branch, has superior food. But this South Beach spot has a few things going for it, including celebrity owners in Gloria and Emilio Estefan; a sexy lounge-like atmosphere with weekend live music; enough tasty bites (notably the shrimp-stuffed tostones, potatoes stuffed with Creole ground beef, and sinfully rich flan con queso) for a Cuban food quick-fix; knockout mojitos (many say the best in town); and, as the real estate expression goes, “Location, location, location!” With the transition to a Bongos Cuban Café (the Estefans’ Orlando/downtown Miami mini-chain), will Gloria still occasionally show up to sing with the bands? Time will tell.
