Kimora Lee Simmons in town to launch new skincare line

Kimora Lee Simmons could use more than 24 hours in a day. The fashionista (president of Just Fabulous), reality star (Kimora: Life in the Fab Lane), mogul, philanthropist and mother has a crazy busy schedule and just added to her load with a new skincare line called Shinto Clinical. The St. Louis native, 37, can’t wait to share it with her admirers this weekend at two separate events, a meet and greet at Nordstrom Aventura 2-4 p.m. Saturday. We hear that she split with her husband, actor Djimon Hounsou had split so we kept it all business.

Shinto’s packaging is sleek and modern. How did you come up with the design concept?

As a designer who began her career as a fashion model, true luxury has always been in the details. It’s a form of value and an appreciation shown to the consumer. I want you to be proud to put the product on your skin and on your vanity as well.

What is your daily beauty routine like?

I’m a mom of three kids, one of whom just turned 3. I’m always working but not always in front of the camera. If I’m not taping, I give my skin the day off. No heavy makeup, just some lip gloss maybe a light eye, that’s it. When I’m going in front of the camera or to an event, that’s a different story.

What about exercise?

My level of physical activity has increased over the past few years. When the kids leave for school in the morning, I do cardio. Sometimes I do interval training on the treadmill, always increasing the speed, resistance and incline. Lately, I’ve been doing Pilates [Hundred], focusing on the abdominals and lungs. Coordinating with your breath intensifies the workout. Doing cardio in the morning on an empty stomach helps me boost my metabolism throughout the day. Yoga and light weight training also help me sculpt and define my muscles.

And your diet? Anything special you adhere to?

In the morning, after I do cardio, I abstain from carbohydrates like sugar, fruit, cereal and starches for two to three hours. This helps my metabolism and helps maintain a high energy level. For breakfast, I generally enjoy a protein such as salmon or eggs, or I’ll make my favorite fiber-rich green drinks with a juicer. Some of my preferred ingredients are kale, spinach, apples and celery. For lunch, I typically enjoy a large salad with dark green leaves along with some protein like chicken or tuna. For dinner, I have a lot of vegetables and fish.
