Hotel Openings On The Horizon Across Miami
New properties breaking ground from Miami Beach to Brickell to Downtown and Key Largo
When it comes to highly anticipated hotel openings, all eyes have been on ambitious resort projects like 1 Hotel & Homes, Miami Beach EDITION and Faena Saxony Miami Beach. Their construction cranes have dotted the coast of mid-Beach for over two years and they’re set to begin opening as early as fall 2014. However, there are a number of new projects on the horizon across Miami, and extending as far south as Key Largo. Here are a few under the radar hotels coming soon to a neighborhood near you.
Aloft South Beach
Directly across Collins Avenue from the site of 1 Hotel & Homes, another project under the Starwood Capital Group has broken ground. Aloft South Beach will become the third Aloft hotel in Miami following in the footsteps of its Miami-Brickell and Doral counterparts. Positioned as the hip little brother of W Hotels, the Aloft brand caters to “the next generation of travelers” with a streamlined eye towards modern design, intuitive technology and a social atmosphere. Set to open in early 2015 with 235 rooms, Aloft South Beach is being built at the site of the historic Motel Ankara overlooking Lake Pancoast and will feature a newly constructed eight-story tower. Amenities will include an outdoor pool, roof deck lounge, fitness center and meeting space.
EAST, Miami – Brickell
Brickell City Centre--the one billion dollar, 5.4 million square-foot multi-use development--broke ground in 2013 and expects to complete its first phase of construction at the end of 2015. The Swire Properties Inc. development will include a luxury shopping center, two residential towers, a wellness center, offices and the 263-room EAST, Miami hotel (which will also include 89 serviced apartments). The hotel is the first in the United States for Swire Hotel’s EAST brand (EAST, Hong Kong and EAST, Beijing are its other two). Award-winning architecture firm Arquitectonica has been tapped for the design, which will include two restaurants, a poolside bar and lounge, a destination rooftop bar, fitness center and meeting space.
Langford Hotel – Downtown
Business travelers to Miami’s downtown urban core will soon have an option beyond big box skyscrapers when the Langford Hotel opens in fall 2014. Stambul, a family-owned, Miami-based company established in 2006, is restoring the 12-story City National Bank at 121 SE First St in a $20 million project. Originally built in 1925, the property has been designated by the National Register of Historic Places and will be converted into a 125-room luxury hotel to include a two-story penthouse and modern amenities complementing the building’s Beaux Art design. The hotel will feature a ground level restaurant and a rooftop cocktail lounge.
Playa Largo Resort & Spa – Key Largo
The first new construction to break ground in Key Largo in over 20 years, Playa Largo Resort & Spa is set to open in summer 2015. Part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection, the resort is situated on 14 acres of waterfront property that was previously an RV park. The sprawling resort will feature 154 rooms, including 10 private bungalows and a three-bedroom beach house with private pool. Additionally, there will be a full-service marina, water sports, tennis courts, jogging trail, spa and multiple waterfront bars and restaurants.
