Hofbrau is named for a well-known Munich brewery and beer hall that dates to 1589. The Beach outpost turns a stretch of Lincoln Road into a beer garden where customers come for huge boot-shaped glasses of beer, schnitzels and sausages in a cheery atmosphere. Here it is Oktoberfest year round. Any of the beers, from smooth Maibock to full-bodied Hofbrau, go well with the big, salty soft pretzels, wurst and sauerkraut, and bacon-topped potato salad. Heartier appetites will want the wurst plate with the works, sauerbraten (pot roast) with potato dumplings, grilled sausage loaf or fried cod in lemony beer butter. Round out your repast with house-made apple strudel.
