The Vibe: In South Florida, the Dolphins’ 1972 undefeated season has reached mythic – even religious – status. Then that must make Shula’s Steak House a true shrine. Everywhere you look there is memorabilia of the 17-0 season. Game balls from Super Bowl VII? Check. Autographed pictures of Bob Griese, Larry Csonka, and Bob Kuechenberg? Got those too. Shula’s, which recently celebrated its 20th anniversary, even has a replica Super Bowl trophy.

Prices/Deals: You don’t go to a spot like Shula’s if you don’t have money in your pocket. But from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m.  – “Social Hour” they call it – every drink in the No-Name Lounge is half-off. From domestic beer all the way up to Remy Martin Louis XIII cognac (usually $220 a shot, a steal at $110). It’s also one of the few places to offer premium wines by the glass. They’ll gladly open a $200 bottle, pour you a glass, and keep the rest in their Cruvinet wine preservation system. Appetizer menu includes blackened tenderloin tips, BBQ shrimp and lobster tail – cold water and flash fried.

Scene: Just as Miami Lakes has changed over the last two decades, Shula’s clientele has changed. Before, players, golfers and Don Shula himself would fill the restaurant. Now, it’s more of a mixed business set, but the restaurant recently underwent a facelift to give it a hipper feel. It’s busier during the week, but if you want the best value, go on Friday. It’s Social Hour open until close. And if you’re lucky, Coach Shula might pop in. He does a couple of times a year.
