Halo

By Juan Lopez

Upon entering, the modern decor smacks you with white wave textured paneled walls, red streamlined banquets that line the perimeter and a bar in the middle of the room that takes up most of the lounge.

The bartenders are hot and friendly and will smile as they charge you  $14 for their signature raspberry mojito. (Don't forget the tip, it's not included in the price.) You can also sign up for their text message blast that promotes drink specials throughout the week.

There is never a cover charge to get in (which makes up for the pricey drinks), but don't forget your id, even though you might be well over the age limit. The doorman at Halo will card you.

The music ranges from house to pop remixes and at times can be too loud to carry on a conversation. No smoking is allowed inside. If you want to light up, you have to go outside.

When to arrive:
Halo gets going early and is a great place to start your night. Get there before 11:30 p.m. to avoid getting caught in a line. Things start to die down around 1 to 2 a.m.

Halo, 1625 Michigan Ave., Miami Beach.

Parking: Street parking, no valet
