Habana Vieja Restaurant
At this classic Cuban spot, the evocative old world ambience (tiles, stained glass, cordial service) is better than most, but prices are not much above greasy spoon level. An especially good deal are weekday lunch specials, belly-busting portions of traditional Cuban entrees, plus huge sides, that don’t break double digits. A little Spanish helps here, but diners can’t go wrong with the croquetas, palomilla steak, or particularly savory vaca frita (marinated and shredded fried beef). Finish with a cafecito or cortadito, here properly prepared with a rich espumita head.
