About
Performance by Gil Morgenstern with pianist Donald Berman. The mandala, Sanskrit for circle, is used in many religious traditions as an artistic aid for meditation to advance practitioners toward a state of enlightenment. A musical mandala takes the music of J.S. Bach as its starting point and circles through works by Brahms, Ysaÿe, Bartók, Barkauskas, Stravinsky, Kurtag, George Crumb and Villa-Lobos. 70 minutes without intermission and is divided into three parts. Images of mandalas, as well as a musical scores inspired by the mandala, are projected throughout the performance
