As what passes for fall gets under way in Miami, we’re seeing more outdoor activities and better weather to enjoy them. This weekend is no exception, with free concerts indoors and out.

The big Wynwood and Design District art walks are Saturday night. Miami Spice dining deals continue, with a chance to try special menus at some of Miami’s top restaurants. Greater Fort Lauderdale’s 2-for-1 Summer Savings deals also continue through Sept. 30.

Here are Miami on the Cheap’s top picks for free and cheap weekend fun Sept. 13-15.

Plant trees for free
This weekend is the last Miami-Dade County tree giveaway for the season. If your yard is looking a little bit bare, you might want to grab your gardening gloves and head over to J.C. Bermudez Park in Doral from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday. Each county resident is eligible for two free trees a year, and you can choose from mango, longan, sapodilla, Dahoon holly and orange Geiger.

Visit another culture
Miami Dade College is hosting two festivals this weekend that will let you experience another culture without leaving home. From 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, you can join the Confucius Institute at MDC at the free Harvest Moon Festival, honoring the Chinese philosopher. (Come at 1:30 p.m. for a free lecture if you’d like to learn more about him.) The event is at the North Campus, 11380 NW 27th Ave. On Sunday, join the celebration of Mexican Independence Day from 3 to 8:30 p.m. at MDC’s Kendall Campus (11011 SW 104 St.), where you’ll find a plaza and bazaar with a mariachi band, folkloric dancers, games for children and food and craft vendors.

Music sounds better when it’s free
The outdoor concert series is officially under way, and there are some free concerts indoors this weekend, too. On Friday night, the Celia Cruz Allstars are the featured performers at Hialeah Park’s weekly Salsa Under the Stars, which starts at 9 p.m. The Bochinchie Group is indoors at Casino Miami Jai-Alai, also at 9 p.m. Saturday night starting at 9, you can hear Palo!, Miami’s favorite Afro-Cuban funk band, at Casino Miami Jai-Alai. Sunday afternoon, you can hear the Negroni Trio from 2 to 5 p.m. at Hialeah Park’s weekly Jazz in the Park event. The outdoor Hialeah Park events are for all ages, but the Casino Miami Jai-Alai indoor performances are only for those 21 and older.

Get classical, with new and old music
The Florida International University Chamber Players will present a free classical music concert at 4 p.m. Sunday at The Wolfsonian-FIU on Miami Beach, sharing works by Beethoven, Mendelssohn and Rossini. You can hear classical (and beyond) works from the other end of the time spectrum at Kendall Sound Art’s monthly free concert of new music at 3 p.m. Saturday at the West Kendall Regional Public Library. South Florida composers and musicians will share their new compositions.

Things to do with the kids

The Family Fun Day at HistoryMiami is exploring all things Peruvian this month, with free admission from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday and special activities for families. Saturday is the monthly Family Day on Aragon in downtown Coral Gables, with a free presentation at Books & Books at 10 a.m. by Michael and Beth Hofer on their book “Major Manners Presents: Nite Nite Soldier.” At 11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, the Coral Gables Art Cinema will show the Disney film “Chimpanzees,” at a special price of $6.50 for children under 12 and $7.50 for older children and adults, with popcorn included. The Coral Gables Museum will have free admission and kids’ projects from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday.
