Free and cheap things to do in Miami - Nov. 15-17
Miami on the Cheap has ideas about keeping your weekend fun budget friendly.
The weather just gets better and better, and so do the opportunities for free and cheap fun on the weekend, especially outdoors.
This weekend brings the monthly Bird Road Art Walk from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday. It’s also the monthly free Target Third Friday at the Miami Children’s Museum, with free admission and special activities from 3 to 9 p.m.
Here are Miami on the Cheap’s top picks for free and cheap weekend fun Nov. 15-17.
Really Big Night in Little Haiti
This month’s free Big Night in Little Haiti features a performance by famed roots (rasin) group RAM, bringing Richard Morse’s unique “voodou rock and roots” sound to Florida for the first time in five years. The event also includes art, crafts, children’s activities and Haitian food. It’s 6 to 10 p.m. Friday at the Little Haiti Cultural Center.
Celebrate 7-5-3 at the Japanese Garden
You can learn about Japanese culture at a free 7-5-3 festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Ichimura Miami-Japan Garden on Watson Island. The 7-5-3 ceremony celebrates the growth of a child. The event will include demonstrations of martial arts, calligraphy and flower arranging, plus Taiko drumming, arts and crafts and activities for children.
Two free classical concerts
Lovers of classical music have two opportunities this weekend to hear favorite music and new compositions. Tenor Kyle Bielfield and pianist Lachlan Glen will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Pinecrest. The concert will be outdoors if the weather is nice; bring chairs and blankets. (If the weather is bad, the concert will move inside.) The Alhambra Orchestra will present “Journey of the Imagination” at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Ransom-Everglades School in Coconut Grove. Donations will be accepted.
Salsa and jazz outdoors
This weekend’s free concerts at Hialeah Park feature salsa and jazz among the flamingoes. Los 3 de la Habana perform at 9 p.m. Friday for Salsa Under the Stars. Kiki Sanchez takes the stage at 2 p.m. Sunday for Jazz in the Park.
Arts and autos in the park
The anti-drug program DARE presents its fourth arts and crafts fair, plus car show, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Coral Reef Park. The event will include artisans selling their wares (need holiday gifts?), plus food vendors, a bounce house and performances by young people. More than 60 vintage autos will be on display from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
