This is a great weekend for free movies and free concerts, as South Florida’s glorious winter segues into a glorious spring.
It’s the weekend before St. Patrick’s Day, which means deals on green beer (and, we hope, beer of the regular color) and parties at local bars and taverns.

This weekend’s art walks are in South Miami: 6 to 9 p.m. Friday in downtown South Miami and 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday in the Bird Road Arts District.

Here are Miami on the Cheap’s top picks for free and cheap weekend fun March 14-16:

Free music and cheap(ish) food
The monthly Wheelin’ Dealin’ Street Food Festival food truck roundup returns to Magic City Casino from 5 to 10 p.m. Saturday. At 8 p.m. at Secada’s, hear a free performance by The Romantics, a New Wave band from Detroit that released the 1980s hit singles “Talking In Your Sleep” and “One in a Million.”

Five movies, free movies and more free movies

This week’s selection of free and cheap movies offers considerable variety. Friday night brings “The Odd Life of Timothy Green” at 7 p.m. at the North Shore Park Bandshell in Miami Beach (free); “Mr. Popper’s Penguins” at 8 p.m. at Hollywood Arts Park (free); and, for $5, “Ice Age: Continental Drift” at 8 p.m. as part of Pinecrest Gardens’ Family Movie Night series. In Weston, you can see “Smurfs 2” free at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Weston Regional Park. Some of these venues offer kids’ activities before the films. For the adults, Actors Playhouse offers free showings of “Monty Python and the Holy
Grail” at 11:30 p.m. Saturday and 7 p.m. Sunday. You need free tickets, which you can get here.

Beethoven on the Beach (well, in Pinecrest)
Orchestra Miami presents a free outdoor concert at 8 p.m. Sunday at Pinecrest Gardens. The program includes Rossini’s Overture to “La Scala di Seta,” Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E minor with soloist Mei Mei Luo and Beethoven’s  Symphony No. 2 in D Major. Seating is available, so you don’t need to bring blankets or lawn chairs. The program will be repeated March 30 at Heritage Park in Sunny Isles Beach.

Chopin on the mainland
The Chopin Foundation is presenting free piano concerts in both Fort Lauderdale and Coral Gables this weekend as part of its Chopin for All series. The concerts are at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Broward County Main Library and 3 pm. Sunday at Granada Presbyterian Church. The featured performer will be Zheeyoung Moon, a Korean pianist and winner of the 2013 International Paderewski Competition in Poland.

‘Dead Man Walking’ play with Sister Helen Prejean
The Miami Dade College (MDC) North Campus Pen Players will present free performances of the play Dead Man Walking at 11 a.m. Thursday and 7:30 p.m. Friday at the MDC North Campus. The work is based on the bestselling book by anti-death penalty activist Sister Helen Prejean, who will make a guest appearance at the Friday evening performance.
