Free and cheap things to do in Miami - June 28-30
Miami on the Cheap has your free and cheap events in Miami.
If you’ve always wanted to visit some of my Miami’s more expensive attractions, this might be the week to do it. Grab your sunscreen and a water bottle and enjoy discounted admission this weekend to Jungle Island and the Miami Seaquarium. Next weekend, you can visit ZooMiami for $5.

Here are Miami on the Cheap’s top picks for free and cheap weekend fun June 28-30.
Jazz, inside and out
Friday night is a great night for jazz this weekend. You can hear Manuel Valera and the New Cuban Express at 8 p.m. at the Museum of Contemporary Art in North Miami, plus visit the museum free (a donation would be nice) from 7 to 10 p.m. If you’d rather listen to jazz inside, you can hear the Paul Ayick Quintet at the Bass Museum of Art in Miami Beach, the first concert of the museum’s Hot Nights Cool Jazz summer series. Admission is $10, free for museum members.
‘Dive-In’ movies in the pool
Grapeland Water Park presents its popular monthly “dive-in” movie event Friday. Starting at 5:30 p.m., admission is reduced to $5 per person. Kids can play in all the pools until 7:30 p.m., when everyone moves to the big pool for the movie at 8. This month’s film is “The Amazing Spider Man.”
Discount deals at two attractions
To celebrate its 10th anniversary at its current Watson Island location, Jungle Island is offering $10 admission to all Friday to Sunday. At the Miami Seaquarium, fans wearing Miami Heat regalia get half-price admission through July 7, but you must mention the Heat deal before buying your ticket.
Win-win with free music at the casino
Miami’s casinos are turning out to be some of our best – and least expensive – concert venues. At Casino Miami Jai-Alai this weekend, you have two opportunities to hear local bands free. On Friday night at 8 p.m., you can hear Driving Force with Lee Johnson play R&B, blues and funk. At 9 p.m. Saturday, Palenke will turn up the Latin vibe with percussionist Manolo Torres and bassist Omar Hernandez.
Don’t be a twit when you tweet
Sunday is Social Media Day in Miami, part of an international Social Media Day organized by Mashable. The Miami event will be noon to 5 p.m. in the Adrienne Arsht Center, Knight Concert Hall. More than 50 speakers will talk about everything from Twitter to Instagram. The event is free, but you’re encouraged to register for Miami Social Media day in advance.
