Free and cheap things to do in Miami - July 25-27
Miami on the Cheap has the scoop on all the budget-friendly fun in South Florida.
Get nostalgic and reminisce about the music from two decades ago at Miami’s oldest bar or check out historic Greyhound buses.
Friday night brings the weekly Viernes Culturales/Cultural Friday celebration in Little Havana. Or, drop by the Wolfsonian-FIU in Miami Beach from 6 to 9 p.m. , where admission is free every Friday night and you can take free tours of the permanent and temporary collections.
Flashback Fest at Tobacco Road
Break out the flannel as you get ready to listen to a night of nostalgic ‘90s music at Miami’s oldest bar, Tobacco Road, on Friday from 8 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. The line-up of local bands features Smells Like Grunge, a Nirvana Tribute Band; The Macsters, who feature music by The Lemonheads and Tom Petty; Smitty the Band, playing Smashing Pumpkins and Primus; and Immigrant Son Performing Soundgarden and Stone Temple Pilots hits.
Greyhound Mobile Museum Tour
Celebrating the centennial of the Greyhound Bus, the Greyhound Mobile Museum Tour makes a stop at Zoo Miami from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday. The interactive tour includes a Greyhound bus that’s converted into a museum with signage and vintage driver uniforms on display, as well as video touchscreens that showcase the transformation of the buses from the 1900s to present day.
Summer movie night at Tropical Audubon Society
What could be more appropriate than watching an environmentally conscious documentary at the Tropical Audubon Society’s space in South Miami under grand oak trees? That’s where they’ll screen “Plastic Paradise: The Great Pacific Garbage Patch,” a documentary film by Angela Sun that explores the effect plastic has on our environment, at 7:30 p.m. Friday. The band Agents of Aku Aku performs ‘60s surf music at the event.
Cultural Fridays in Little Havana
The free arts and music festival along Calle Ocho happens the last Friday of every month from 7 to 11 p.m. Take a historic walking tour of the area home with Dr. Paul George, then take in all the colorful art at one of the many galleries along the street, watch the masters play at Domino Plaza, shake your hips to the live salsa music and -- this Friday only -- sip on a cafecito from the Ikea Cafecito truck.
Dive-in Movies at Grapeland Water Park
Cool off with the kids on Friday night at Grapeland Water Park where they can get their fill at the slide pools in Pirate’s Plunge or Shipwreck Island from 5:30 to 7 p.m., then settle in at Captain’s Lagoon at 7:30 p.m. for a screening of “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2.”
