Hot Nights Cool Jazz

By Josie Gulliksen and Teresa Mears | info@miamionthecheap.com

Spend a summer afternoon meandering through downtown Coral Gables sampling bites offered by their best restaurants at the Kitchen Hop, then cross the Causeway to South Beach and imbibe in two hours of complimentary drinks at Patpong Road’s one-year anniversary soiree.

You can head to the beach a day early and spend Friday night at the Wolfsonian Museum from 6-9 p.m. when admission is free, get an early start on Saturday with a free yoga class in Coconut Grove or hit the dbq Happy Hour at JW Marriott Marquis daily from 5-8 p.m.

Free libations at Patpong Road’s first birthday
Strolling Lincoln Road is always an option for passing the time on South Beach but how about heading just one street over to the hidden Lincoln Lane? That’s where you’ll have to go on Saturday starting at 10 p.m. for Patpong Road’s one-year anniversary celebration, where all well drinks are free until midnight. The late-night venue sits above Khong River House and is an ode to Thailand’s version of Amsterdam’s Red Light District.

Kitchen Hop through downtown Coral Gables
The tapas or small plates craze is still in full swing, and the folks at Zevents are capitalizing on that foodie trend with another Kitchen Hop event. This time, food lovers take to the streets of downtown Coral Gables Saturday from 2-6 p.m. to visit eight spots including Morton’s Steakhouse, Season’s 52, Cibo Wine Bar, BrickTops and Red Koi Sushi. Wash down the bites with inexpensive beers and cocktails at each stop and hit the after party for a complimentary cocktail at Cibo Wine Bar, where it all starts. You can 50% off discount tickets online.

Cool jazz at the Bass Museum
Mix some culture and music in with your happy hour at the Bass Museum’s Hot Nights Cool Jazz on Friday from 7-9 p.m. Enjoy complimentary drinks and music by the Fernando Ulibarri Quartet, who will perform songs from their latest album “Transform.” Check out the museum’s current exhibitions, too, including “Gold” and “tc: temporary contemporary.” Free for members, $10 for non-members.

Live music at Dolphin Mall
There is more than shopping for entertainment at Dolphin Mall. Weekends are also musical, and it costs nothing to listen. This weekend’s line-up features Axel Aleman on Friday and Brazilian Explosion on Saturday from 8 p.m. to midnight with Debbie Orta gracing the stage Sunday from 2-4 p.m.
