Miami Beach resident Sherri DiMarco has brought the latest fitness craze that's been tightening butts and lengthening thighs from LA to the East Coast to a storefront in South Miami. The Bar Method is a low impact, high intensity workout the fuses ballet movements, pilates techniques, calisthenics and a little bit of torture (joking) to squeeze those flabby derrières into shape. If you need any proof of how well the method works, have a look at founder Burr Leonard's fabulous physique; she occasionally swings by Miami to check in.
The Bar Method, 5734 Sunset Dr., 2nd Floor, South Miami; 305-668-7738; find schedules at miami.barmethod.com.
Sounds like a retro, '70s-style spinning class? Not really. SoulCycle is a combination of inspirational coaching, great music and a full body workout on the bike. Not only do riders burn calories, get an intense 45-minute cardio workout, but using the SoulCycle® Method, they simultaneously tone their upper bodies using hand weights and do core exercises. Cyclists ride in candlelight, with a life-size black and white mural of an open road behind them. That will make you feel like you are doing a little soul searching as you sweat.
