Featured guide: Sex and the stiletto
In honor of the May 30th release of Sex and the City: The Movie, here's the list of Miami's most sensational shoe stores.
By Maria Tettamanti
A wise woman, okay, a fiercely fashion-forward woman (we're talking Carrie Bradshaw here) once said, "I like my money right where I can see it - hanging in my closet." Yep, the girls of Sex and the City never met a couture piece they didn't love. And they certainly never encountered a heel too high or pricey. So in honor of the May 30th release of Sex and the City: The Movie, here's the list of Miami's most sensational shoe stores. Let's dish, shall we?
WHERE TO BLOW THIS MONTH'S RENT
Capretto Shoes is a heel-aholic's heaven. Chi-chi labels like Prada, Miu Miu, Jimmy Choo, Azzedine Alaia, Pierre Hardy and Lanvin are de rigueur. Even better? Balenciaga, YSL and Gucci handbags are up for grabs. Swing by this shop when you have the Benjamins to spare.
Capretto Shoes, 5822 Sunset Dr., South Miami; 305-661-7767
No Choo guide, er, shoe guide, would be complete without a shout out to Carrie fave Jimmy Choo. When visiting The Village of Merrick Park's boudoir-esque boutique, ask for Sales Associate Maria Suarez. She's super helpful and insanely hilarious. A splurge here will have you eating Ramen noodles for the rest of the month, but heck, Choos are like diamonds - a girl's best friend.
Jimmy Choo at The Village of Merrick Park, 360 San Lorenzo Ave., Coral Gables; 305-443-6124
WHERE TO SHOP AND NOT FEEL (TOO) GUILTY
The Grove finally opened a shoe store worth bragging about. Butter is brimming with Marc by Marc Jacobs, Sigerson Morrison, Delman, Tapeet, Missoni, Dolce Vita and Matt Bernson stems. Come fall, Butter will also carry the less ubiquitous labels Loeffler Randall, Repetto and Maloles. Prices range from moderate to muy expensivo. And that's a good thing - depending on your checking account's balance.
Butter, 3115 Commodore Plaza, Coconut Grove; 305-443-3434
Loves, loves, loves the merchandising here. Shoes align the walls like whimsical works of art (as they should). The goods? Marc Jacobs, Celine, Moschino, Stella McCartney, Michael Kors and lesser knowns like Corso Como and Barbara Bui. Seeing as "capricho" means "whim" in Spanish - buy what you fancy.
Capricho, 269 Miracle Mile, Coral Gables; 305-774-0110
Mary Brickell Village is now home to a fab footwear shop. Can I get a "whoop whoop?" Uber-cool brands like Alejandro Ingelmo, Pedro Garcia, Jean-Michelle Cazabat and Tory Burch are in store. The best part of splurging here? Kick back and quaff a margarita at Rosa Mexicano afterward.
Joanna Paige, 900 South Miami Ave., Miami; 305-379-9300
Living up to its divine namesake, Shoe Heaven will have shoppers in a state of elated bliss. The boutique offers a menagerie of designers including Charles David, Via Spiga, Unisa, Guess, Steve Madden, Kenneth Cole and BCBG. Best of all, purchases here won't have you praying for a miracle when your credit card gets swiped.
Shoe Heaven, 82 Miracle Mile, Coral Gables; 305-403-1884
So Accesso is so what the doctor ordered when you need shoes and accessories in one stop. Shop not-too-crazy-expensive shoe lines Sergio Zelcer, Joie, Sam Edelman, Dolce Vita and Report Signature and snatch a Hype handbag or Tarah Smith carryall. The boutique also carries Miami local designer Aily V. and lesser-known label Laura Brandon. So cool.
So Accesso, 5785B S.W. 40th St., 305-669-3085
