Fashion Student's Project Turns into Business
Miami native Ashley Amrich launches Helen Betty line
South Florida native Ashley Amrich has always been drawn to ocean life. The patterns on the fish and corals caught her eye so much she imagined they would make for perfect prints on fabric. So during her last semester at Miami International University of Art and Design, Amrich, 28, decided to do just that. She used everything her grandmothers Helen and Betty taught her about sewing, pattern making and fashion into a full on collection aptly called Helen Betty.
Her class project not only earned her a good grade, but it turned into a business 3 months ago. Today, Amrich sells her swim and resort wear online. There’s everything from bikinis to full pieces to frocks to pants and leggings which all feature antibacterial fabrics and UV protection. The line starts at $55 up to $120.
