Deidre Hall is kitchen savvy

Soap opera diva Deidre Hall is a whiz in the kitchen. A foodie at heart, the former Days of Our Lives star knows how to whip up a 30-minute meal faster than you can say Rachael Ray.

Soap opera diva Deidre Hall is a whiz in the kitchen. A foodie at heart, the former Days of Our Lives star knows how to whip up a 30-minute meal faster than you can say Rachael Ray.

Her love of cooking and gift of gab inspired the actress to collaborate with BFF Lynne Parmiter Bowman. ``We'd sit around the kitchen cooking and chatting and kept saying to each other we've got to write a book!''

In Deidre Hall's Kitchen Closeup, the BFFs share some of their fave recipes (hers is the vegetable soup) and nutritional advice. But it's also a book full of what Hall calls her own ``wisdoms.'' Think relationship and style advice laced with some humor.

On Thursday, the ex-Dr. Marlena Evans will meet fans at Books & Books where she'll join Greg Meng and Eddie Campbell, the authors of Days of Our Lives: 45 Years: A Celebration in Photos.

Hall is featured in most of their pics -- after all, she was a soap staple for over 30 years.

``I was on the show for almost half of my life!'' joked the 63-year-old. ``It was enriching and I don't mean in the financial sense. For me, there was a sense of family and the safety of a creative outlet.''

Hall loves meeting her fans. ``Marlena is a devoted, loyal, caring, accepting woman so she attracts people like that as her fans,'' she says. ``It's good news for me because what I get when I meet them is arms flung open. The most frightening thing that can happen is that I get lots of hugs!''

Nowadays the Florida gal, who grew up in Palm Beach County, enjoys spending time with her sons, David, 18, and Tully, 15.

``I have the freedom now to write my own schedule. I have one son applying to college and another who is in high school.''

So does she miss working on the Days set?

``I must say no. I miss the friendships and the creative outlet, but it's a relief not to worry about the maintenance . . . the nails, the makeup, the hair.''

Meet Deidre Hall 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Books & Books, 9700 Collins Ave., Bal Harbour Shops.
