Daisy Fuentes

By Madeleine Marr

Daisy Fuentes breezed into Miami recently to host the FedEx/St. Jude Angels & Stars Miami Gala. It was no hardship - St. Jude's is a cause close to her heart and Miami is one of her favorite towns. Her whole family lives in South Miami, including a sister, with (nice) a boat.

The model, television personality (America's Funniest Home Videos) and former MTV veejay is 41 now, if you can believe it. But Pilates has done her well - as evidenced by the hot picture in People en Español 50 Mas Bellos. Alas, she isn't single, but engaged to musician Matt Goss, with whom she lives in L.A.

While prepping for the gala, Daisy gave us a few minutes:

Favorite spots?
"The spa at the Mandarin Oriental is great. My mom, sister [Rosanna] and I go there and make it a girl's day. Merrick Park is a fantastic mall. We go get lunch and make a day of it."

What's something people may not know about you?
"I love to cook. I love the Food Network. I'm actually going to be on Paula Deen [Paula's Home Cooking]. It was a special on layered dishes that I shot with my sister. We made an amazing Spanish version of lasagne with eggplant, chorizo, manchego cheese and meatballs. My sister was born in Madrid and I spent some time there as a child so there was that influence."

You recently guest starred on VH1's Viva Hollywood. What do you think of reality TV?
"I like it, but not with all the drama. I like real reality, if you know what I mean - cool, interesting, addictive shows like what's on The Discovery Channel."

What do you like about Miami?
"I'm already established in L.A., but Miami is my second home. I love the beach, of course. The water in general. That's where Miami gets its energy from. It's another world there. It's very different from the rest of the U.S. - the world."

What do you do when you are down here?
"We get on my sister's boat. It's a great way to escape everything. Then we get into the kitchen and crank out some really good food."

How do you stay in such good shape?
"It's a challenge. The secret is to genuinely be happy. Don't be miserable. Treat life well, be good to yourself. But the older you get, the more you have to pick it up. All the girls in Hollywood, I can tell you first hand, they work really hard to look the way they do."
