Cleveland is certainly developing a Miami complex.

First we beat their beloved Indians for a World Series championship. Then we lured LeBron James to South Beach. Now we have taken their orchestra. This weekend the Cleveland Orchestra, under the direction of Franz Welser-Möst and joined by acclaimed pianist Yefim Bronfman, opens its sixth season in Miami on Friday and Saturday, co-presented with the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts and the Musical Arts Association of Miami.

The orchestra’s only performances until March will be held in the John S. and James L. Knight Concert Hall at the Adrienne Arsht Center (1300 Biscayne Blvd., Miami) at 8 p.m. each night and will include Sean Shepherd’s Wanderlust, Dmitri Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 6, and Johannes Brahms’s Piano Concerto No. 2, with Bronfman as soloist.

The Cleveland Orchestra started its Miami residency project in 2007 and each season serves more than 20,000 adults and young people in the Miami-Dade community through a variety of concerts and community engagement activities.

Prelude concerts featuring members of the orchestra performing chamber music by Shepherd and Brahms, along with commentary are free and open to all concert ticket holders at 7 p.m., also in Knight Concert Hall.

Tickets range from $30 - $100 and are available by calling 305-949-6722 or visiting www.arshtcenter.org or www.clevelandorchestramiami.com.
