Goodbye Gables, hello Kendall. Chef Alberto Cabrera is leaving The Local to start his own Frita Shop, billed as a Cuban burger joint. The New Times reports Cabrera's explanation: "My partners and I cannot agree on the direction of the restaurant or an adequate compensation for my continued involvement. I have to this point sacrificed a lot on a personal and monetary level to see The Local succeed and I am proud of what I created." The Frita Joint will reportedly boast chorizo-laced burgers, cafe con leche and liquid nitrogen shakes. First stops: Kendall Dr near Baptist and Bird Rd & 87 Ave. No word on opening date.
