Growing up Clara Lago’s father used to call her Pitusa which means cute funny girl in Spanish. That very nickname of affection, the Brickell resident treasured so much she decided to dub her first apparel and accessory brand with. The brand is for “someone with a bohemian flare who enjoys wearing bright colors,” said Lago, 25. “One of Pitusa's specialties is the Inca Abaya. An abaya is a loose over-robe worn by women in the Middle East. I have taken this traditional comfortable design, modernized it, and have added Inca accents,” said Lago.
Launched in 2012 with just ten thousand Pitusa has grown to be carried in twenty five countries and in forty independent boutiques located in; the US, Caribbean, Latin America, Europe and the Middle East. All the pieces are designed by Lago herself and her current collection called Pitusa Summer Collection 2012 has become a hot seller in Miami. There’s long backless dresse, polka dotted hot pants, rompers, neon maxi skirts, Inca kimonos, mini backless frocks and caftans. The line retails from $40 and up. Pitusa is sold at W Hotels in South Beach, Metta in Key Biscayne, Rebel, Studio LX in Brickell, and Scarlett Boutique in Kendall. Check out www.pitusa.co.uk.
