Boutique of the Week: Oz
If only Dorothy had found this boutique, she could've avoided gingham.

For most, MySpace is the Web address for keeping tabs on old cronies, posting mindless bulletins, spying on frenemies and poring over other peeps' personal pics. But for 22-year-old Francy Freixas, MySpace is a forum to share her love for all things vintage and to promote her future online store based out of her Miami home, ozboutiquemiami.com.
Born and raised in Miami by Cuban immigrants, Friexas says, "I've been thrifting at Goodwill since I was a little girl." She adds, "I've always had a passion for fashion, and just because something is not brand-spanking new, it can always get fixed." Her style mantra? Never be generic.
In fact, Oz Boutique is anything but exoteric. "People can expect to find handpicked vintage apparel for women and men, accessories, house wares, jewelry - anything with a unique appeal," Freixas says. "You know, people always tell me that I have a great eye for really cool stuff," she adds. By browsing her MySpace page, clotheshounds can check out Freixas' finds for sale and event info.
From crochet beer coolies to '80s lame blouses, Oz Boutique carries the unexpected. "I truly enjoy sifting through stuff and finding little treasures," Friexas says. By scouring garage sales, thrift stores and estate sales around the U.S., Freixas perfected the art of unearthing vintage gems. Currently up for grabs at Oz? Fun designer pieces from Dolce & Gabbana, Escada, Moschino, Ungaro, Chanel jewelry and decadent furs. "But hey, if you can't afford designer prices, I've got plenty of other vintage pieces for all everyone."
And as for the name Oz Boutique, Freixas says, "I looove the movie and let's face it, Emerald City is such a magical, mystical place." And so is MySpace - especially when you're stuck in a cramped cube and want to break out from the grind. We all know there's no place like home, but vintage shopping and MySpace combined? Sounds like a fabulous, fantastical fit to us. The Wizard of Oz would be so very proud.
