The lowdown: Jessica Uchuya opens a second outpost of her women’s clothing and accessories boutique, Jessie, in South Beach giving local ladies a spot to stock up on well-known labels and emerging designers that might otherwise be found at a luxury department store.
The 'hood: Nearby touristy Lincoln Road, but away from the trend setting scene, Jessie’s makes its debut by venturing off the beaten path and nestling in a quiet strip mall neighboring a Boston Market. Free parking is available in the shop’s private lot and parking meters run along Alton Road.
The vibe: Unlike the giant Aventura location, the Sobe store is quaint-sized, mod and decked out in Uchuya’s favorite colors: black and white. “I wanted a clean look,” she says. The walls, shelves and wood flooring look fresh in the heavenly hue while harmonizing perfectly against a black chandelier, leather couch and faux animal rug.
Highlights: Dangling from black wrought iron racks are jumpsuits, pantsuits, jeans, tunics, and plenty of frocks from labels like Twelfth Street, T-bags, Ingwa Melero, Alice + Olivia, Trina Turk and Karina Grimaldi. Platforms from Sergio Zelcer and Mystique sandals top the shelves along with scarves by Love Quotes, handbags by Kooba and Botkier. Dainty necklaces and bracelets by Designs by Romi and Sheila Fajil make up the jewelry.
The owner says: “I’ve always wanted to have a store in South Beach. I grew up here and it was really lacking a local boutique with a large variety of different lines,” says Jessica Uchuya.
Customers say: “We all needed a store out here like this,” says Adriana Reyes.
