Boutique of the week: Electric Couture
With techno music blaring out of speakers and a club-like feel, this shop will have you dancing right into affordable fashion.

''The Kendall area has nothing like our store,'' boasts Yanelle Borbolla, co-owner of Electric Couture, the newest boutique to open in West Kendall's London Square shopping center. ``We have the glam and vibe of South Beach, except we don't have the prices.''
The 2,000-square-foot shop with techno music blaring out of speakers and a dimly lit club-like feel was opened by Borbolla and her friend Ileana Lima, 28, in December. The shop specializes in selling trendy garb, shoes and accessories to men and women from labels like Ed Hardy, Double Zero, Love Stitch, Hale Bob and Rocky Candy.
''With $150, you can walk out of our store with an entire outfit from head to toe to wear to a club or to a daytime event,'' Lima says. ``And one of the perks of our store is that you can see our new stock online.''
The duo snaps photos of inventory on a weekly basis and uploads images onto MySpace and Facebook pages. ''It's helped us get more clients,'' Lima says. ``We have people as far as Brickell and Miami Lakes coming over here to shop now.''
''I also tell our clients to call us to put what they want on hold, because our stuff flies,'' Borbolla adds. ``Like the saying goes, you snooze, you lose.''
On a Wednesday afternoon, a few patrons scour through racks of pastel-hued mini frocks, wrap dresses with geometric prints, chiffon tops, tunics in vibrant colors like mango and pouffy skirts in floral prints. In contrast to the shop's plain gray walls, everything else about the store is upbeat. Hot pink and black-and-white print curtains dangle in front of dressing rooms while zebra-print fabric adorns tables that hold a bevy of T-shirts and accessories. Even the boutique's black-lacquered floor is sprinkled with pink glitter.
''We decorated the place ourselves,'' Borbolla says. ``We chose to name it Electric Couture because it's a little rough around the edges, but it has energy. Plus, we wanted to keep it as a sister store to Ileana's boutique, The Electric Boutique, which is on Eighth Street and 142nd Avenue.''
The partners met a year and a half ago when Borbolla went shopping at Lima's shop. ''She would come by all the time and we just became good friends,'' Lima says.
''I was actually planning on opening up a Spinning studio,'' says Borbolla. ``I got my certification and everything, but then this just fell on my lap and I couldn't be happier.''
''Our clients are happy, too,'' Lima adds. ``When they come in they always tell us West Kendall needed something like this.''
