About
For those who know blintzes, potato pancakes, and gefilte fish as kosher dairy restaurant fare, many of the dishes at this cute café won’t exactly ring a bell. Malawachs? Ftuts? Feh! The quick fill is that they’re dough-based dishes from Yemen, and the best is this eatery’s namesake bissaleh, a flaky, buttery pastry stuffed with a very tasty mix of cheeses plus additional garnishes such as mushrooms, olives, spinach, zaatar, and sesame. Sachalab and malabi (both served only in season) remain mysteries, which will perhaps clear up when the season rolls around.
