In pursuit of the perfect pizza? There's a place up for the challenge in Coconut Grove, with the added perk of empanadas and paninis, all fired crispy in an outdoor brick oven. The outdoor patio is best for romantic twosomes. (Even the walk down the narrow alley between Dolce Vita Gelato and Le Petit Paris has a hint of intrigue.) Try the fresh basil Margherita pizza or a hearty Capricciosa pizza (ham, mushrooms, artichokes and basil). It's worth the challenge of finding a parking space in the Grove.
EAT: Our family is in perpetual pursuit of the perfect pizza. There's a new place up for the challenge in Coconut Grove, with the added perk of empanadas and paninis, all fired crispy in an outdoor brick oven. Even the pita triangles in our tasty Caesar salad were toasted over the flames, fragrant with smoke on a cool fall evening.
The outdoor patio at Bertoni Lounge & Brick Oven Pizza is better suited for romantic twosomes. (Even the walk down the narrow alley between Dolce Vita Gelato and Le Petit Paris has a hint of intrigue.) The four of us, with the usual soccer and school buddies in tow, were more inclined to dash in and out with a fresh basil Margherita pizza for the kids and a hearty Capricciosa pizza (ham, mushrooms, artichokes and basil) for the adults. All 17 of the eight-slice pizzas on the menu have thin crusts.
Our meat and chicken empanadas were small and a little dry, but the creamy Caesar dressing was the best we've tasted in awhile. It's worth the challenge of finding a parking space in the Grove.
DRINK: Quilmes, an Argentine beer on the menu for $3.50 a bottle.
WATCH: Ghost Busters. Pop in the '80s ghosts (and giggles) for Halloween.
