August Openings
August may be the end of summer and school-free freedom, but it’s the beginning of something delicious with these new restaurant openings.
Mia at Bicayne opens its Downtown Miami doors this month and brings live music, lounging and international fare blending Spanish, Japanes and Latin American flavors to the neighborhood. Signature dishes include the MIA Roll, lobster topped with spicy tuna, crispy plantain, scallions and avocado crema; Confit of Pork Bells with potato pomade; and Tortilla Espanola.
Mia at Biscayne: 20 Biscayne Blvd, Miami; 305-MIA-0032
Pool, darts, a raw bar and over 16 on-tap beers are just some of the draws at Brickell’s new Waxy OConnors Irish Pub and Eatery. The riverside spot opens this week with flat screen TVs, a $12 weekday lunch special, lobster sheperd’s pie, house made smoked dip and a bevy of Irish whiskeys, single malt scotches and bottled brews.
Waxy O’Connor’s: 690 SW First Ct, Miami; 786-871-7660
Botequim Carioca infuses downtown with a bit of Brazilian sizzle this month. Located across from the AA Arena, the Brazilian tavern serves up seafood, salads, sandwiches, steaks galore and various deep fried appetizers. Come before the game to fuel up or stop by after to celebrate.
Botequim Caricoa: 900 Biscayne Blvd, Miami; 305-675-1876
Re-opened after a 10-year hiatus, gas-station themed The Filling Station brings burgers, sandwiches and car metaphors aplenty to downtown Miami. Start with a hubcap full of sweet potato fries; continue with an off-road salad or a limo wrap (roasted turkey, spinach, Swiss cheese, peppered bacon, garlicky mustard mayo) or a Humvee sandwich (grilled mahi mahi, lettuce, salsa, pepper jack cheese on whoel wheat wrap); or a flat tire (quesadilla).
The Filling Station: 95 SE 2 St, Miami; 786-425-1990
