New in town for Art Basel? Bienevenidos a Miami! Sure, the Magic City is home to copious amounts of sun, beaches, hipsters and mojitos — but it also boasts spectacular shopping spots. Here are our top picks:
LINCOLN ROAD: The main shopping and dining vein of Miami Beach, consider Lincoln Road the must-see spot during your jaunt. People watching at this pedestrian friendly promenade are also a favorite pastime here.
1111 Lincoln Road
New this year is the recently completed, uber-cool Herzog & de Meuron-designed 1111 Lincoln Road building. Boutiques here include Coltorti Miami, Babalu, Journelle, Nespresso, Alchemist, Artsee, Y-3 and more. Each store’s space is easy on the eyes — modern masterpieces, if you will. 1111 Lincoln Road, Miami Beach.
Base
Tired of the same ol’, same ol’? Then bounce over to Base — the epicenter of all things cool, quirky and hip. Off-the-beaten-path designers such as Miansai (jewelry), Area Ware (artistic objects) and Tsovet (watches) are up for keeps. Be sure to groove to some beats at their renowned music bar. Base, 939 Lincoln Road, Miami Beach; (305) 531-4982.
Debbie Katz
Debbie Katz’s creations are synonymous with South Beach style — colorful, vibrant and airy. While Katz’s high-quality cotton gauze tunics, dresses and pants are perfect for mustering Miami’s sweltering heat, her designs define Florida living. Debbie Katz, 1629 Alton Road, Miami Beach; (305) 672-9778.
DESIGN DISTRICT: This de rigueur area across the pond from Miami Beach is home to design stores, art galleries, gourmet restaurants and unique boutiques galore.
Brownes & Co.
Need a manicure, wax and some beauty booty? Brownes & Co. has got you covered. Up for keeps are get-glam goodies by Darphin, Dr. Hauschka, Liz Earle, Mario Badescu, Acqua di Parma, Jurlique and more. Home items like Diptyque candles and Apothia aromatic diffusers are also on hand. Brownes & Co., 87 N.E. 40th St., Design District; (305) 573-5221.
Marni
This Milanese-based company made its debut during Art Basel Miami Beach 2008, which is fitting considering the small corner space is a work of art in its own. Floating stainless steal racks around the store’s perimeters carry dresses, knee-length skirts and tops in Marni’s signature pastel patterns. Marni, 3930 N.E. 2nd Ave., Design District; (305) 764-3357.
Tomas Maier
Leave it to the Bottega Veneta creative director to create a lifestyle boutique chockfull of cashmere cover ups, bold bikinis, killer coffee table books and CDs. Upstairs there’s a 1,000 square-foot gallery with rotating exhibits usually featuring photography, too. Tomas Maier, 170 N.E. 40th St., Design Districti, (305) 576-8383.
BAL HARBOUR: Think Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous. With shops that would make even Robin Leach’s jaw drop (Carolina Herrera! Harry Winston! Oscar de la Renta!) this is where the well-heeled like to shop and be seen.
Addict
Addicted to kicks? Then Addict is the cure for your sneaker fixation. Find fashion-forward footwear by Ugg Australia, Nike, Adidas, Puma, Lacoste, Sabelt and Michael Toschi. Addict; (305) 864-1099.
Calypso
A saunter through here will have you dreaming of Saint Barths. Calypso carries all things bohemian, chic and even gorgeous pieces for the home. Their scented candles are the perfect souvenir. Calypso, (305) 866-8202.
Intermix
This is every Miami glam gal’s go-to shop thanks to its hip assortment of women’s clothing and accessories. Designers like Herve Leger, Diane von Furstenberg, Gryphon and Rag & Bone are all in the mix. Intermix, (305) 993-1258.
Oxygene
Fashionistas flock here for obvious reasons — Oxygene is not only meticulous in its décor, its contents are out of this world. Balmain, Lanvin, Alexander Wang and Jasmine Di Milo clothing and accessories are in store. Their specialty? Modern, gorgeous and ageless creations. Oxygene; (305) 864-0202.
Bal Harbour Shops is located at 9700 Collins Avenue, Bal Harbour; (305) 864-1801.
