This Cuban-American local is a (frugal) femme fatal. Find out how.
Rapunzel-esque blonde mane? Check. Feminine frock and sky-high heels? Check, check. Fan of Forever 21? You betcha. Meet Annie Vazquez. This born-and-bred Miami gal masters the esoteric art of mixing high and low-brow brands with finesse. We chatted up the Cuban-American cutie on splurging, saving and why crimped hair is a crime.
Profession: Fashion writer and blogger behind TheFashionPoet.com.
Spotted at: Lorie Lester boutique
The outfit: Forever 21 dress, American Apparel gold sash, Steve Madden glitter pumps, Etienne Aigner vintage leather clutch, Forever 21 gold and silver bangles, diamond cross and a slave bracelet from The Little Big Store.
What are your go-to stores? “I'm all about mixing high-end brands with budget buys and sprinkling in some vintage. Forever 21, The Rabbit Hole, American Apparel, BCBG, Saks Fifth Avenue, Scarlett boutique, Jessie's boutique, Nordstrom, Shopbop.com and the best one: my mother's closet,” Vazquez says.
You've just inherited, $2,000 where are you splurging? “New York Fashion Week and if I have anything left over I'm spending it somewhere quaint in Europe,” she says.
IT handbag designers: “I love vintage Gucci, Louis Vuitton and Chanel. I recently stumbled across some great ones at C.Madeleine's and Angel's Vintage Boutique,” Vazquez adds.
Best jewelry designers: “At the moment, Nicole Richie's House of Harlow and locally Avi's The Little Big Store and Tiffany Ortiz's TAudrey line.
What items are you eyeing to purchase for Winter? “I want a Gold Saturn Manhattan tee, the Alice + Olivia Goddess dress in nude and Hunter boots with a heel,” she confesses.
Best in shoes: Christian Louboutin and Jimmy Choo.
What are your closet’s staples and why? “I find myself wearing a lot of flower and girly prints mostly with short frocks and scarves just because I love being feminine. For this, I turn to Betsey Johnson, DVF, BCBG and lately thank God for the price, Forever 21 dresses. But, whenever I want to feel comfortable, you'll find me in AG jeans, white or grey V-neck tees, an oversized scarf and an arm full of bangles. Oh yeah, and I'm always in heels,” Vazquez says.
What is the worst trend you ever trend? “Back when I was in middle school, I was an avid watcher of Yo! MTV Raps. I was all about dancing hip-hop so you can just imagine my fashion sense — gold name plate in Chinese letters, Z.Cavaricci and MC Hammer pants and steel-toe shoes,” she laughs.
Biggest fashion faux pas: Crimped hair, overly plucked eyebrows, scrunchies and fanny packs.
Style muses: Diane Kruger, Rihanna, Cameron Diaz, Nicole Richie and Alexa Chung.
