Academy Awards hands out hardware early
The academy's inaugural Governors Awards were distributed Saturday night to actress Lauren Bacall, industry exec John Calley, B-movie magnate Roger Corman and cinematographer Gordon Willis.

Few noticed, including much of the national media, but the academy's inaugural Governors Awards were distributed Saturday to actress Lauren Bacall, industry exec John Calley, B-movie magnate Roger Corman and Godfather trilogy cinematographer Gordon Willis.
The honorary awards were handed out apart from the overly long main ceremony in order to give time for proper acknowledgement of the honorees.
