'90210' baddie a good girl
While in town to promote fashion label Alice + Olivia, the '90210' hottie talked about how her character Naomi's new plotline has affected her, plus her new movies with Val Kilmer and 50 Cent.
AnnaLynne McCord may play vixen Naomi Clark on TV’s 90210, but in real life she’s anything but.
The Atlanta native, 22, would rather talk about her charity work than her acting career. She rolled into town -- literally -- in an Airstream with fashion label Alice + Olivia last week to strut in a Fontainebleau fashion show, do makeovers and raise awareness for Kristi House, a nonprofit helping molested women.
‘‘It’s really interesting for me because Naomi’s character at the season finale was molested by her teacher,’’ she says. ‘‘It’s really important for me to play this role and speak out about speaking up, encouraging my fans who have gone through this.’’
McCord had to cut the trip short and fly to the Palm Springs International Short Fest to support Amexica, about the world of human trafficking, another one of her causes. (She also hit the L.A. premiere of Twilight Saga: Eclipse Thursday night, to be on the arm of boyfriend Kellan Lutz.)
‘‘It was a pro bono film I shot three years ago,’’ she says of Amexica. ‘‘It’s been a long process getting it out because it’s all donated time. Palm Springs is very prestigious. If we win, we qualify for the Academy Awards, so cross your fingers for me!’’
Next up for the busy actress: two movies, coincidentally both costarring 50 Cent (aka Curtis Jackson) and Val Kilmer.
‘‘It was so bizarre and random. In the first one [Gun], I play a mediator between an arms dealer and Curtis’ character who is on the streets dealing guns. In the next one I’m an undercover FBI agent, and Curtis and Val both make cameos.’’
Working with Kilmer was definitely interesting. ‘‘Top Gun was all I could think of -- Ice Man!’’ she says, laughing. ‘‘It’s been a few years since that movie came out. You keep looking at him like, ‘This is so crazy that you’re here in the same room.’ ’’
McCord -- who has starred as the b-word in movies like Fired Up! and The Haunting of Molly Hartley -- was happy to be in Miami Beach, where she lived years ago as a teen model.
‘‘Miami is kind of like a little Twilight Zone,’’ she says. ‘‘It never changes. I can come back year after year and go to Ninth and Ocean and see the same people still playing volleyball. I love that!’’
